Easier to find the owners of stolen bikes

10,400 bikes were reported stolen last year according to Finans Norge. With the new Norwegian insurance-approved bike register Bikemember, whoever finds your bike can easily contact you — without involving the police or the lost-and-found office.

Bikemember offers the same services as the former Falck Sykkelregister, but in a more flexible and affordable way. The bike is registered at bikemember.no. The sticker arrives in the mail and is attached to the bike. While the sticker can be scraped off, it is not easy, and the frame number is also registered.

"Our experience is that bikes marked with the Bikemember sticker are less attractive to thieves, because the thief knows others can look it up in the register. And if it does get stolen, the chance of finding it again increases," says Bikemember CEO Ole Jørgensen.

If your bike is stolen you report it online or via customer service. If someone finds the bike — in a ditch or on a "buy and sell" page — they can scan the sticker or look up the frame number and reach you. Both you and the finder remain anonymous through Bikemember.

"After Falck stopped operating and sold its bike register, we felt there was room for a more modern register," Jørgensen says. "Bikemember is the only bike register that lets the finder contact the bike owner directly. With this solution we hope Norwegians can help each other so the police can use their resources on more important tasks."

Registering a bike with Bikemember is affordable. If the bike is registered and insured, you can save up to NOK 2,000 on the deductible if it is stolen. Bikemember is FG-approved, meaning approved by the insurance industry's organisation.
